Food Insecurity Report

WHO City of Harrisonburg
WHAT Community Food Equity Report: Transportation and Accessibility Folder. This analysis of transportation and food accessibility in Harrisonburg is designed to illustrate the systematic barriers that many of our neighbors face when trying to provide healthy, convenient, and accessible food for their families. It’s intended to help city planners target priority zones and serve as an educational resource for residents.
HOW I began by researching Harrisonburg’s transportation infrastructure, hypothesizing that areas with higher rates of food insecurity faced more accessibility challenges. I set out to communicate the link between transportation and food equity by mapping grocery stores, wealth distribution, and side-walked areas.
The final deliverable is designed to be friendly, approachable, and most importantly interactive. A successful information campaign must invite the audience to engage with the data. A set of interchangeable overlays encourages the reader to explore the synthesize the information and draw their own conclusions.
